Women’s choices will shape service delivery and workforce
Personalised care is likely to remain a significant idea of services. This has a variety of consequences, including demand for midwives as first contact to navigate mothers through their pregnancy, greater continuity of care, one-to-one care in labour, an increase in the incidence of C-sections, but also more home births and midwife-led births for low risk pregnancies. The media representation of natural births (for example the profiling of celebrities who chose C-sections) may increase demand for C-sections from low-risk women.
