Tropical and novel disease
There is a change in incidence of tropical diseases and novel diseases following the change in climate, for example tick-and mosquito-borne diseases. The elderly are particularly vulnerable to new diseases, especially when there are colder winters. This adds to already-complex conditions and increases demand. However, it also increases mortality either directly or by making patients unsuitable for surgery as they are too sick, thus reducing demand for A&ICM.
Proposed workforce impact
- There could be an increased workforce demand due to increased complication of conditions.
- There may be decreased workforce demand as fewer patients are eligible for surgery or through earlier death due to disease.

Additional research questions
- Would demand increase or decrease overall?
