The development of more advanced scanning equipment will increase capacity

More advanced scanning techniques are likely to enable more problems to be identified, monitored and treated before the baby is born. This will increase scanning capacity and may produce efficiency savings via reduced CT and MRI scans, as new scanning technology is less expensive. This will partly offset the current shortage of sonographers and in the future may require additional training for midwives.
