Shortfall in number of medical staff as more retire early
More people are retiring early due to changes in retirement policy. This is already happening, although the impact will be felt afterwards. GPs may retire five to 10 years earlier because of uncertainty around the NHS reforms.
Proposed workforce impact
- There may be a decrease in the number of medical staff.
- A decline of solo and small GP practices takes place.
- There is a decrease in the age gap between junior and more senior medical staff.
