Shaping of medical training
A review of postgraduate medical education is being undertaken. There are implications for numbers of trainees applying to the psychiatry specialty. These implications impact on the number of students recruited into the specialty, and also the extent to which students have a broad skill base and can work across a range of settings and morbidities.
Proposed workforce impact
- Increased supply of consultant psychiatrists
- Increased diversity in skills of the workforce
- Positive/negative medical school exposure
- Emphasis on experience
