Rising numbers of children in care
The number of children referred into care has been rising since 2008. The resultant demand for care services will in turn lead to a greater need for qualified social workers.
Since 2008, the numbers of children being received into care has been rising and in February 2012 figures reached a record high. During the month, 903 court applications for care proceedings were made compared to a monthly average of 747 in 2010-11. An increase in demand for care services could result in a greater demand for qualified children’s social workers and support services to care for looked after children.
