Remote monitoring is a success
In response to economical constraints, remote monitoring of patients provides financial benefits. Smaller acute wards link to specialised centres on a hub and spoke model for people already in the system (virtual wards). A smaller amount of consultants are able to provide remote monitoring and advice to a large number of acute wards.
Proposed workforce impact
- There are improvements in productivity.
- There is reduced demand for the hospital-based acute medical care workforce.
- Training needs around this model are required

Additional research questions
- Does the threshold for funding of expensive technologies or drugs need to be reduced to meet increased patient expectations and demographic pressures?
- Can an effective diagnosis be provided remotely in this way?
