Regulations for out-of-hours care tighten
The emergence of evidence indicating that the level of hospital care delivered during out-of-hours service, at night and at weekends is poor could precipitate changes in the requirements for hospitals during these times, including increasing the availability of consultants. “Hospitals will have to be reconfigured; you'll need about 10 consultants to deliver 24/7 care (not five or six as it is now).”
