Personalised healthcare advice keeps the population healthier
The impact of public health campaigns on the disease burden of the NHS could be significant. Personalised healthcare advice could lead to individuals staying healthier, therefore reducing demand on NHS services. Some people have suggested that just as dentistry has revolutionised itself as a profession – 'from a drill-and-fill profession' to one that advises and prevents dental ill health, so a similar transformation could happen in medicine?
Proposed workforce impact
- There may be reduced demand on the workforce.
Additional research questions
- The success of the anti-smoking campaign is testament to the potential of public health to change people’s behaviour. Is anti-alcohol the next big campaign?
