Newly qualified pharmacists do not meet employers’ expectations
As the complexity of patient needs increases and the role of the pharmacist evolves, employers need to invest more in post-registration training to enable newly qualified pharmacists to meet the demands of the job.
Proposed workforce impact
- Tasks for newly qualified pharmacists are limited to dispensing roles.
- More pharmacists are required to produce the same level of output.

Additional research questions
- Is the current recruitment process for the MPharm degree appropriate?
- Should a standardised recruitment process be implemented across all schools of pharmacy?
- How can the undergraduate curriculum keep pace with the rate of change in the pharmacy sector?
