Life plans alter as retirement age reaches 75
The ageing population will also lead to an ageing workforce. Economic pressures may lead the government to further extend the pension age to 75 and beyond. This could lead to an unexpected oversupply of resources. Alternatively it could influence the way that people plan their lives and careers. People could decide to enter medicine later in their careers or leave medicine earlier for another profession. Perhaps people will take more career breaks or decide to do more part-time work as their working life is extending.
