Introduction of a sub consultant grade
The shape of training review recommends the introduction of a sub-consultant grade that is then implemented. This provides financial benefits to the health sector. However, people working at the sub-consultant grade are often expected to fulfil the roles and responsibilities of more senior doctors, leading to attrition and a lower quality of service provision.
Proposed workforce impact
- There is greater career flexibility as people can move in and out of different stages.
- There is attrition.
