Higher rates of diagnosis of children with autism are being reported, consequently requiring SLT interventions.

Uncertainty on the best way to treat the condition was also mentioned. A close link-up between SLTs and colleagues in education will be needed to provide the best services for children with autism, and a smooth transition from child to adult services.

• Increased demand requires an increase in supply.
