GP career becomes less attractive
The decreasing numbers applying for medicine are reflected in experiences at schools. The career is seen as under pressure from society and there is a downward pressure on earnings. There are perceptions of significant workload, and less favourable terms and conditions make a GP career less attractive to prospective students. The public sees the NHS facing major financial and organisational difficulties.
Proposed workforce impact
- There is a reduced supply of research and development resources for health and social care.
