Generation Y entitlement
There is a shift in generational attitudes as more empowered consumers, who are used to having their needs met, express this as an entitlement for emergency and acute care. Demand for consultant-delivered care is the norm, as is immediate access to care. Increased internet-based research into illnesses and ailments provides patients with a greater knowledge of the treatments available to them. Generation Y therefore feels entitled to receive specific treatments and demands them, despite the cost of provision. Generation Y becomes increasingly litigious; physicians are less likely to take any risks for fear of compensation cases.
