Developing risk assessment and management competencies for PH workers
Health-risk assessment and management require knowledge of, and skills to handle, a range of ideas which could threaten public health.
Competences in risk assessment and management for the wider public health workforce can be supported and developed by specialised agencies in the field. The role and experience of the Health Protection Agency for example, in providing education and training platforms in risk assessment and management through new partnership arrangements, can be diffused throughout a wider public health workforce. This might involve defining core competencies for health risk assessors and the development of a harmonised curriculum for health risk assessment, particularly at the foundation level in the areas of toxicology, exposure assessment to chemicals, environmental and human bio-monitoring, epidemiology, substances in consumer products, and electromagnetic fields.
