Continued NHS reforms and service design changes
Continual changes to the NHS and different sectors SLTs work in may lead to a dramatic change in SLT services.
This may include an increasing number of SLTs working in smaller, private practices, thereby creating a disparate and fragmented workforce, which in turn may lead to problems with continuous professional development (CPD) and skills oversight. The continued changes in the public provision of SLT services may make setting up private practices more attractive. Alternatively, services may also change to be more outcome-based and integrated, and as a result affect the location and demands of the SLT workforce.

Proposed workforce impact
- A broader range of skills might be needed, regarding leadership in multi-professional and multi-agency environments.
- Greater use of skill mix in a reformed system may affect the demand for SLTs.
