Change to the personality disorder pathway
Those with personality disorder may be treated in hospitals rather than prisons, where they are currently treated.
There is a push to establish psychologically informed planned environments (PIPEs) in prisons for those with personality disorders. PIPEs ensure that staff members have additional training to increase their psychological understanding. If these are to be established, SLTs could have a large role to play.

Proposed workforce impact
- More SLTs will be needed in the justice sector as an increased level of healthcare will be provided in prisons.
- SLT training courses may have to be redesigned to include further psychological training.

Additional research questions
- How likely is the establishment of PIPEs in prison?
- Will SLCN be included in the training of staff in PIPEs? If it is included, how prominent will it be?
