Academic careers

Academic careers become harder to pursue as service pressures reduce the amount of time that can be spent on academic work. This impacts on progress in A&ICM in the future as fewer doctors undertake academic work. The alternative may also occur providing more academic posts and the time required to fulfil the role. 

Proposed workforce impact

• Increased workforce demands could mean a decrease in supply to academic roles.
• There may also be a noticeable reduction in quality of services as they are less informed by academic outputs.
