To inform long-term workforce planning it is necessary to scan the horizons of the health and care system for potential challenges, opportunities and likely developments. One horizon scanning approach is to ask those working in and being served by the system what they think might change and impact the services in the future. Bringing together a series of future-thinking ideas about the future health and care system impacts can help to inform those assessing the future workforce needs for the system under review.

During Horizon Scanning workshops and interviews the CfWI asked healthcare professionals and stakeholders their ideas on what could impact the health and care systems over the next 20 years. Their ideas have been gathered in this bank to provide a single source of detailed, informative and thought provoking ideas that could shape the future health and care services and workforce they require.
