Accessibility policy for the CfWI website.
The Centre for Workforce Intelligence (CfWI) wants this site to be easily usable and accessible for everyone. We therefore endeavour to comply with level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 1.0.

Design
This site was built using XHTML and cascading style sheets (CSS). If your web browser does not support or allow CSS, you should still be able to make full sense of the content.
The colours and contrasts used have been chosen in accordance with accessibility requirements for users with visual impairments.
JavaScript is used on this site. Functionality will not be affected if JavaScript is turned off.
Font size
You can resize the text in your browser by holding down the Ctrl key and press ‘+’ to increase the text size, ‘-‘ to decrease, or ‘0’ for the default size. (This method works on the browsers Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.)
Alternatively, if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, hold the ‘Ctrl’ key and scroll the wheel up and down.
Navigation
A ‘skip to content’ link exists in order to allow users of assistive technologies such as screen readers to access the main areas of a page. You can navigate through the site and access all of its content by using your keyboard, as well as by using a mouse.
Tables
All tables are created using appropriate XHTML mark-up in order to make them fully accessible.
Links
Hyperlinks are written to be descriptive and, where possible, make sense without having to read the content surrounding it. In this way, users of assistive technologies are given relevant information for each link with regards to its destination and the nature of the content that it is linked to.
Images
Alt text is used to provide text descriptions of images on this site.
Access keys
If you have difficulty using a mouse or similar device, you can use keyboard shortcuts to help you navigate through this site. These keys operate in the following manner and conform to UK government standards on access keys:
- S – skip to main content of page
- 0 – accessibility policy
- 1 – home page
- 2 – workforce planning news and review
- 3 – site map
- 4 – search
- 5 – advanced search
- 9 – contact us.

Audio and video content
We provide text equivalents such as transcripts or collated text transcripts to accompany audio and video content featured on this site.
PDFs
To view any Portable Document Format (PDF) downloaded from this site, you need Adobe Reader. The programme is freely available if you do not already have it.

We take every reasonable effort to make PDF files accessible. Some PDF files, such as older documents or those containing complex data tables, may still not be fully accessible. Contact us if you require an accessible version of a file.
Every reasonable effort is taken to ensure that file sizes are as small as possible. Large documents may need to be published in several smaller sections.
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint files on this site are offered as either:
- document downloads in PowerPoint (.ppt), PowerPoint Show (.pps) or PDF format, depending on the nature of the content and any requirements for users being able to modify the material, or
- embedded files, so that the content is playable within the page.
PowerPoint files are accompanied by HTML text alternatives or converted to PDF format for the benefit of users who use screen readers.
User-generated content and content from third parties
This site contains content that is provided directly by our users – for example, a document may be uploaded to a discussion thread in a public forum. We will encourage users to follow good accessibility practice when uploading content directly.
